As key representatives of the offsite manufacturing sector, prefabAUS in partnership with Fleetwood Australia are championing the development of the built design professionals of tomorrow. Join us live to see the winners of the 2021 Fleetwood Challenge Cup!

The 2021 inter-University design competition challenged architectural, engineering and construction management (AEC) student teams address the global issue of adaptive re-use, to make use of the glut of empty buildings left in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The competition’s design concept explored the proposition of adaptive re-use in the built environment. Teams were asked to retain, incorporate and extend buildings at a local site into a vibrant mixed-use development with retail and residential elements. Each cross-disciplinary team comprised four to six students who worked collaboratively through a design process to produce innovative solutions to meet a challenging brief and then verify their approach.

More than 100 aspiring students from universities across Australia formed collaborative, mutli-disciplinary teams to tackle the challenge ahead. Over the past six months they have worked tirelessly to provide substantial responses to addressing these fundamental issues facing our industry. The results are outstanding!

The submissions were assessed by an independent expert judging panel of cross disciplinary AEC professionals in a ‘blind judging’ process culminating in the upcoming Awards Ceremony where finalist teams and their work will be showcased.
