Matthew Tobin
Matthew is the Co-Founder and Managing Director at UAP. UAP is a ground-breaking company that collaborates with artists, architects, designers and developers to bring uncommon creativity to the public realm – and expert resources to creativity.
Matthew co-founded UAP with his brother Daniel in 1993, starting out with a small workshop in Brisbane. Over the past 25 years, UAP has grown to become a global enterprise and is recognised as a world leader in public art and architectural design solutions. Matthew has played an integral role in this evolution. From 2009 to 2012 he was based in China establishing UAP’s Shanghai office. Today, he splits his time between the Brisbane, Shanghai and New York studios, overseeing all UAP’s operations.
As Managing Director, Matthew’s primary focus is strategic business growth, plus UAP’s engagement with advanced manufacturing techniques and Industry 4.0. His comprehensive knowledge of project delivery, together with his strong leadership skills and background in visual arts, has seen him lead the ever-expanding UAP team to incredible success. Supported by the core values of creativity, collaboration, insightfulness and innovation, UAP is raising the bar for advanced fabrication and artisanal craftsmanship.

As well as profiling the 300 George Street façade project, Matthew will discuss how the adoption of new technologies is helping Australian manufacturers to become more competitive against low cost offshore competitors – reflected in the much higher local content in this project than in earlier projects.
