Karl-Heinz Weiss

Karl-Heinz Weiss is the Founder and Director of Weiss Insights Pty Ltd. providing Consultancy Services for the construction, development, and engineered timber sector. Encompassing whole-of-lifecycle efficiency and productivity challenges and opportunities: from design to construction and development, product and market fit, research, education and training, thought-leadership, and advocacy.

Karl-Heinz is a trained and qualified master cabinet maker and joiner, a timber engineer and an Industrial Designer. 

He is globally recognised for his ground-breaking work in the application of engineered timber for construction as Co-founder of KLH UK, delivering the landmark projects of Stadthaus Murray Grove, London and Open and City Academy Norwich, UK.

He has been at the forefront of innovation from individual construction projects or related product development applications through to large scale, globally significant projects. In addition, he has played a key role in start-up projects which have sought to catalyse the sector to into new levels of efficiency utilising technologies and LEAN/ DfMA principles and included leading smarts in safety and process efficiencies.

In addition, he was instrumental in introducing engineered timber into the Australian market – in particular, the ground-breaking multi-story timber Forte’ and Library at the Dock in Melbourne, 25 King Street in Brisbane and International and Daramu House in Barangaroo, Sydney.          Until November 2022 he held leadership roles at Lendlease, most recently as Head of Research & Development and Technical Director DfMA at Lendlease Digital. 

He is a Research Associate at University of Melbourne – Infrastructure Engineering Department, and a Professor of Practise, Architecture at MADA - Monash, Arts Design and Architecture Faculty.
