Dr Michael Fotheringham
Managing Director, Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI)
Dr Michael Fotheringham has held leadership roles at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute since 2014. As Managing Director, he is responsible for setting Australia’s national housing research agenda and curating an internationally lauded policy research evidence base on housing, homelessness, and urban issues.
Michael serves on a variety of expert advisory panels including the Australian Government’s Urban Policy Forum, the Housing Supply Expert Panel, the Housing Implementation Taskforce, the Ministerial Homelessness Reform Advisory Group, the Australian and New Zealand School of Government Research Council, and the Veterans’ Cross Sector Advisory Group. He is a national council member of National Shelter, a member of the Australian Academy of Science’s Sustainable Cities and Regions Expert Reference Group, the Social Policy Research Centre Advisory Board, the Homes for Homes Housing Advisory Group, and is a former non-executive director of Homelessness Australia.
Michael provides regular expert advice to Commonwealth and State Ministers across Australia and is sought for evidence-informed advice by senior policy makers in Australia and internationally. He is an in-demand media spokesperson, conference speaker, and event facilitator.
