AMGC is pleased to release its latest report:

Perceptions of Australian Manufacturing

This report compares 2019 and 2021 survey results, details the Australian public’s perceptions of the manufacturing industry, and highlights what the public believes to be important.

One of AMGC’s key findings is that in 2021 almost three quarters of Australians believe manufacturing is either important or very important to the economy. This is higher than the 2019 result and reflects a renewed appreciation of the value of a strong and advanced manufacturing capability during the COVID-19 pandemic and for Australia’s future.

‘Love of mail-order’: How Australia’s earliest buildings came out of a box

Australia has the largest surviving collection of 19th century prefabricated and portable buildings in the world, including NSW’s Legislative Council.  Nearly 200 years before any couple tested a relationship by trying to assemble an IKEA flat-packed Billy bookshelf, prefabricated and portable buildings flooded into Australia.  Shipped from the United Kingdom, Singapore and Germany in wooden crates, some of these buildings came with instructions. Others didn’t.

Australian architects design new steel wall cladding system

Studio Nine (S9) Architects has collaborated with Revolution Roofing to design a series of new architectural steel wall cladding profiles named ‘Nineline’.  Born out of a mixture of curiosity and frustration, the idea was borne through a sports project within the S9 office.  “Sports architecture is typically clad in a single, cost effective, prefinished material across a large-scale façade — one design move on mass”, says Studio Nine Architects Director, Andrew Steele.
