We will be discussing how to attract tech-focused talent to the smart building industry.
As we move toward designing and building using digitisation, robotics and artificial intelligence (otherwise known as Industry 4.0), how do we ensure that our industry attracts the talent to propel us forward?
Following some brief presentations, Scott Hearne, Sensum (and great friend of prefabAUS) will lead an in-depth panel discussion with Dr Jane Cooke, National Survey Technical Support Manager, C.R. Kennedy, David Fox, Associate Director, Research and Technology at the Western Parkland City Authority and Nick Holden, Founder and Director, 3D Contour and Modular Walls.

Meet the speakers
Dr. Jane Cooke, National Survey Technical Support Manager, CR Kennedy
Dr. Jane Cooke is an experienced professional in the field of surveying and GPS technology. As the National Survey Technical Support manager for CR Kennedy, she leads a team that provides training, troubleshooting, and technical guidance for all Leica survey equipment across Australia.
After many years working in the field and completing a PhD in Volcanology and GPS monitoring Jane started working at Leica Geosystems, where she joined the technical support team. Over the course of more than two decades, she has witnessed the remarkable growth and transformation of the surveying industry. Her understanding of the technology and her practical experience in the field make her a valuable resource for addressing technical challenges and providing valuable insights to customers and colleagues alike.
David Fox, Associate Director, Research and Technology at the Western Parkland City Authority
David has an extended background in SME manufacturing spanning 35 years. Experiences cover technical, management and leadership roles, addressing design, production, workflows, quality and project management systems.
He is a mechanical engineer grounding by his time in the metal trades. His practical experiences have shaped his interests toward creating efficient and sustained manufacturing environments that support, short run customised production scenarios.
The introduction of digital over traditional manufacturing encouraged him to move from industry to the NSW government in 2021. His current role as Associate Director, Research and Technology at the Western Parkland City Authority is central to the development of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF). He is focus on the technologies the facility will support and how this investment will engage with industry, and the wider community to advance manufacturing capability and growth.
Nick Holden, Founder and Director, Contour3D and Modular Walls
A humanitarian who only knows how to live life in the fast lane. Nick gives back to his community, thrives on mentoring young entrepreneurs, and has a passion for charitable endeavours.
As an eager entrepreneur from early on in life, Nick has followed several career paths, including the automotive field, machine building and fabrication, then starting a whole new class of composite fencing and noise walls in 2003 - Modular Walls. Nick took this from invention to international innovation that now employees over 100 people across Australia.
Most recently, Nick founded Contour3D - a company focused on advancing the construction industry through technology and robotics incorporated with 3D concrete printing. Nick’s goal is to reduce homelessness and make general housing more accessible, through the automation of construction.
Nick - “I have done some challenging things in my life and worked some crazy long hours, but developing the tech, software, 3D printing materials and machinery from scratch, with no instruction book in such a short period of time has been something else, but who gets to go to work and have a genuine opportunity to change the world”.
