Many breathe a sigh of relief when the negotiation of the contract is completed and the contract executed. But in truth the real task has just begun.
The combined tasks of the physical side of delivering the project and the administrative side of ‘all that paperwork’ has just begun.
More projects get into difficulty as a result of the behaviours during administration than because of troublesome contracts. How do you ‘keep it all together’ and not get bogged down in the paperwork? Are those endless formal requirements really all that important?

Meet the Speaker: Phillip Greenham
Phillip Greenham LLB, BSc is recognised by a wide variety of eminent institutions, publications, and the legal profession itself, as one of Australia’s foremost construction lawyers.
He is a founding board member of the Society of Construction Law Australia, a long-time member of the International Construction Projects Committee of the International Bar Association, a long-time member of the Building Dispute Practitioners’ Society, and – for over three decades – served in Australia’s largest infrastructure and construction practice at Minter Ellison. He retired after 27 years as a Senior Partner advising industry on complex infrastructure procurements.
One of his particular specialties is the development of procurement methodologies and contractual terms which satisfy government policy requirements, providing solid protection and meeting with the approval of central government agencies, whilst at the same time ensuring the active and enthusiastic support of the marketplace.
He has advised on, drafted, and negotiated contracts implementing a wide variety of procurement methodologies, including traditional construct only, design and construct contracts, Managing Contractor (MC) contracts (both traditional and enhanced), alliancing contracts, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contracts, Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), among many other formats.
He has also worked with the gamut of industry standard contracts, modified them and provided advice on the administration of those contracts.
